One of the first widgets I placed on my blog was a very cool video bar from "Widgetbox.com". I was and am still happy with this graphic and have no problems with it except that it takes a couple seconds to load due to the file size. The last couple times I have visited this site every other widget I clicked on had a virus and here's how I know.

I was and am still happy with this graphic and have no problems with it except that it takes a couple seconds to load due to the file size. The last couple times I have visited this site every other widget I clicked on had a virus and here's how I know.First of all, when I clicked on the widget I was interested in, on their site, it would load very slow. Second my Norton Anti-virus would pop up, as I'm trying to set the properties for the graphic, to tell me that it has found and removed a high risk virus from my computer. And third, being naive, I tried a different widget and got the same results. "Fancyjens" is another site with virus issues.
We have Norton to protect our computers, but who is supposed to be protecting our websites we've worked long and hard on? Why don't the search engines find these problems when they crawl the sites? What happens if we, without knowledge, put a "killer widget" on our page? It would probably have a reaction similar to the plague. Widget distributors.....PLEASE scan you sites for viruses.

Along with the scan...a robust backup system is required.
If the blogging platform does not support backups...there are others online that can be tapped into.
